Have you bought CRISTEL® stainless steel cooking equipment and would like to know how to maintain it properly? These French-made products are of the highest quality and come with a lifetime guarantee. But to ensure they last a long time, it's vital to look after them properly. However, you can't improvise the maintenance of your stainless steel cooking equipment. See all our advice on how to look after your CRISTEL® stainless steel cooking equipment.
Which products should you choose?
If you're looking for tips on how to care for your stainless steel frying pans or saucepans, the best advice we can give you is to use natural, non-toxic, biodegradable solutions.
If you want to look after your stainless steel cooking equipment while protecting the environment, using natural products is the best solution. The most effective natural products include bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar, natural citric acid and CRISTEL®'s eco-responsible Renox products.
Which products should you avoid?
While the use of natural products is recommended, there are also mistakes to avoid if you don't want to damage your CRISTEL® products. With stainless steel cooking equipment of such high quality, it's best to do everything possible to look after it and preserve it as much as possible. For example, it is absolutely not advised to use abrasive products or acids. This means that all products such as bleach, limescale remover or chlorine should be avoided. Similarly, you should never clean your stainless steel frying pans or saucepans with an abrasive sponge or steel wool. On another note, don't use stainless steel utensils in a stainless steel pan or saucepan with a non-stick coating.
Long-term maintenance
For long-lasting maintenance, there are a few things you should do on a daily basis. For example, it is advisable not to overheat your pans, especially if they have a non-stick coating. Ideally, you should not exceed 2/3 of the maximum power of your hob when cooking.
If your pan is still hot, deglaze it with water before washing. This will make it easy to remove any residue. If your pan is cold and you want to clean it, mix some washing-up liquid with CRISTEL® Renox Inox (uncoated pans) or use CRISTEL® Renox C9 (non-stick coated pans). Then heat the mixture, turn off the heat and leave it to work for 30 minutes. Alternatively, it can be cleaned in a dishwasher.
Special features
In some cases, you may notice traces of different colours in your frying pans or saucepans. Don't worry, there are solutions to make them disappear, depending on the colour of the marks. If the traces are rainbow-coloured (traces due to the starch in pasta, rice or potatoes), they will gradually disappear.
If the marks are small and white or grey in colour (marks caused by pouring salt into cold water), use a mixture of water and vinegar or CRISTEL® RENOX Inox to clean your pans, then rinse and dry thoroughly. If the marks are light yellow or brown and are on the inside or outside of your stove (marks caused by overheating), simply use a stainless steel cleaner to remove them (also RENOX inox).
And finally
Taking good care of your stainless steel kitchen equipment is quite important if you want to preserve it for longer. Make sure you only use products that are not harmful or overly aggressive to your stainless steel frying pans and saucepans.
